Sustainability
Sustainability has become a buzzword within the contract furniture industry. But a commitment to the environment is not always evident in every facet of a product’s development. As the premier manufacturer of ergonomic seating and work tools, Humanscale demonstrates a commitment to sustainability in every step of product development, from inception and design through manufacturing and distribution.
Humanscale abides by the philosophy that good design achieves more with less. That's why we strive to design products that solve functional problems as simply and elegantly as possible, while consuming less of the Earth’s limited resources. Our seating and ergo tools weigh less, require fewer parts and manufacturing processes, and are made to last longer than any other products on the market.
Material Content
In addition to the amount of material used in a product, the type of material is critically important too. Whenever possible, Humanscale uses 100% recycled aluminum, which saves 95% of the energy and 95% in carbon dioxide emissions compared to producing virgin aluminum. We also design products for easy disassembly to encourage recycling, and make it our goal to divert 100% of all solid waste away from landfills.

LEED Credits
Virtually all Humanscale products can be integral to the achievement of LEED credits. In fact, the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC), creator of the LEED Green Building Rating System, turned to Humanscale when it sought LEED Platinum Commercial Interiors certification for its new Washington, D.C., headquarters in 2007. To help achieve the Platinum level, USGBC incorporated Humanscale seating, keyboard supports, monitor arms, laptop holders and footrests into its overall design.

Wildlife Conservation
All of Humanscale's efforts to reduce its carbon footprint come naturally, as Founder and CEO Robert King has served on the National Council of the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) since 1999. Our annual art auction and fundraiser, Faces in the Wild, has raised more than $390,000 for WWF and other wildlife organizations.
