Humanscale Philly Awarded Silver LEED-CI Certification

NEW YORK, February 5, 2009 — The U.S. Green Building Council has awarded Humanscale’s new Philadelphia sales office LEED Silver Certification for Commercial Interiors. This accomplishment is a reflection of Humanscale’s longstanding commitment to the environment, which is applied not only to the design and manufacture of its products, but its office and showroom interiors as well.

The LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Green Building Rating System is a voluntary certification program that promotes sustainable building practices and ensures minimal human and environmental health impact from a project. Through the achievement of LEED Silver Certification, Humanscale exceeded the minimum criteria required for standard LEED Certified status.

Humanscale’s own products were integral in the achievement of numerous LEED points at its Philadelphia sales office. In addition to a dozen LEED-CI credits in the Energy & Atmosphere, Materials & Resources, and Indoor Environmental Quality categories, Humanscale products helped contribute to an Innovation in Design Credit for an Ergonomics Strategy. The USGBC itself set a precedent for an ergo-centric credit when it earned Platinum LEED-CI certification with assistance from Humanscale for its Washington, D.C., headquarters in 2007.

Additional green features of Humanscale’s Philadelphia office include direct outdoor views for 100% of work spaces, interior daylighting for 83% of workstations, and utilization of power generated from renewable sources.

Humanscale has also registered its intent to seek LEED-CI certification for additional North American facilities currently under construction or renovation, including its forthcoming showrooms in Toronto and Atlanta, and expanded office space at its New York City headquarters.
