Humanscale Wins Six Big Awards at IIDEX/NeoCon Canada 2009
More IIDEX Innovation Awards Than Any Other Exhibitor
NEW YORK, September 24, 2009 — Humanscale has netted more awards at IIDEX/NeoCon Canada 2009—Canada's largest exposition and conference for the design, construction and management of the built environment—than any other exhibitor at the event. Earning six awards in total, Humanscale’s honors include three top prizes—Gold IIDEX Innovation Awards—for the Diffrient World chair, Element LED task light, and V7 Wall Station for healthcare applications. Additional awards include a Silver IIDEX Innovation Award for the 6G keyboard mechanism, and Bronze IIDEX Innovation Awards for the L6 Notebook Manager and M2 monitor arm.
Representing ultimate simplicity in a high-performance task chair, Diffrient World sets an exciting new bar in sustainable task seating design. Made from just eight major parts and weighing only 25 pounds, the Diffrient World chair achieves Humanscale’s signature weight-sensitive recline through an innovative new design that functions without a mechanism. The chair’s ultra-light weight and minimal-part design require minimal raw materials and manufacturing processes, and as a result, two to three Diffrient World chairs have the same overall environmental impact as a single traditional task chair. Its durability and modularity—for easy in-field upgrades—further minimize its carbon footprint to ensure a long life of service. Made of 97% recyclable content, the Diffrient World chair can contribute to a number of LEED credits.
Element represents groundbreaking advancements in LED technology and is the first of its kind to meet all the Department of Energy’s criteria for an LED task light. Thanks to unique MCX LED Technology—which utilizes a single high-intensity Multi-Chip LED—and a unique heat-shedding design, Element eliminates all the shortcomings of current-generation LED task lights. Rated for 60,000 hours—up to 30 years in a standard 9-to-5 office environment—it draws only seven watts of power while producing light output equivalent to a 70-watt incandescent bulb. Element offers unmatched sustainability in an LED task light and can be integral to a number of valuable LEED credits.
The V7 Wall Station computer support solution teams ergonomics and safety with maximum space savings to provide easy and comfortable computer access in compact healthcare environments. Designed for instant, effortless and independent adjustment of the monitor and keyboard via a perfectly counterbalanced spring mechanism, less than a pound of force is required to adapt the V7 to any user, sitting or standing. Plus its ultra-adjustable design promotes direct interaction and improved communication between caregivers and patients, leading to a better care experience.
Humanscale’s next-generation keyboard mechanism—the ultra-sleek and ultra-functional 6G—offers a thin profile that is half the thickness, utilizes 28% less steel, and weighs 28% less than similar mechanisms. It’s also the first keyboard mechanism available in a contemporary white finish (in addition to standard black) and can contribute to a number of LEED credits.
The L6 Notebook Manager helps laptop computer users work in ergonomic positions, reducing the risk of musculoskeletal disorders and eyestrain. The L6’s unique one-way clutch-bearing hinge allows for intuitive adjustment of the height of the laptop display—without buttons or release mechanisms—while an optional USB hub offers added convenience. The L6 is made of 30% recycled and 95% recyclable materials, including IQ Valox, a plastic that comes from recycled soda and water bottles.
The M2’s advanced engineering promises to revolutionize the dynamic monitor arm category. Utilizing a high-performance mechanical spring—instead of a bulky, failure-prone gas cylinder—the M2 offers dynamic adjustability in an ultra-slim and eco-conscious design. Made of 52% recycled and 99% recyclable materials—including significant use of 100% recycled aluminum—it can contribute to a number of valuable LEED credits.
