Humanscale Fills Hotel Chelsea Lounge to Capacity
More than 600 Guests Attend A&D Event
New York, December 11, 2007 — Humanscale kicked off the holiday season on December 6, 2007, playing host to more than 600 guests in the Star Lounge at the legendary Hotel Chelsea. The Humanscale sales team and members of New York’s architecture and design community enjoyed the festive atmosphere and terrific company at the hot-ticket soiree.
Attendees, including representatives from more than 50 Manhattan-based design firms, packed the club to capacity between 6:00 and 11:00 PM. Many commented on the novelty of the venue—a known haven for famous musicians, artists and writers throughout the 20th century—and left business cards behind for a chance to win fine art prints of the Hotel Chelsea by resident artist David Combs.
The theme of the party was inspired by the lounge itself and its Warhol-style murals, crystal disco ball, and photos of hotel patrons from the 1970s. Three displays featured a complete Humanscale ergonomic solution and Liberty and Cinto chairs along with early 1960s artifacts, including an authentic Princess telephone—created by Freedom and Liberty chair designer Niels Diffrient—plus an electric guitar, lava lamp and a vintage Look magazine.
Humanscale upholstery and mesh textiles doubled as custom draperies and accents. Panels of Vellum fabric, and Silver Check and Torque mesh decorated doorways and windows, while Wave-upholstered pillows provided additional cushioning for guests seated on party room couches.
The live DJ mixed current hits and oldies. And when the disco lights came on around 9:00, everyone took to the dance floor to cap off a terrific evening.
