New York, December 27, 2007 — Humanscale’s Paramount Multi-Monitor Display System and Switch Mouse have earned prestigious 2007 GOOD DESIGN® Awards from the Chicago Athenaeum: Museum of Architecture and Design. The oldest competition of its kind, GOOD DESIGN has evaluated entries based on innovation, form, materials and construction, concept, function, utility and aesthetic appeal since 1950. In 2007, the museum received hundreds of submissions from more than 26 nations. The Paramount and Switch Mouse will be featured with other award recipients on the Chicago Athenaeum website.
Designed by the Humanscale Design Studio and ideal for trading environments, the Paramount supports up to eight flat-panel monitors on a single mount to facilitate multi-monitor viewing. Its curved, parabolic design allows users to view all screens at an ergonomically ideal angle and depth. It offers effortless adjustments and tool-free configuration changes. The Paramount can be mounted to virtually any horizontal or vertical surface, including most slatwall systems designed for trading environments. An integrated cable management system maintains the Paramount’s sleek aesthetic in either black or silver.
Also developed by the Humanscale Design Studio, the Switch Mouse is a revolutionary new mousing solution that brings unprecedented ergonomics to computer users. This groundbreaking peripheral device offers two new innovations—a V-shaped base, which minimizes wrist pronation, and a navigation dish that reduces muscle activity while allowing users to scroll in all directions. Additional features on the optical Switch Mouse include a patented size-adjustability feature that offers a custom fit, symmetrical design for left- or right-handed use, a built-in palm support to encourage safe wrist postures, and programmable buttons. The design accommodates natural arm positions, reduces repetitive motion stress, and provides customizable function and comfort for all computer users.
Previously, the Switch Mouse won a 2008 iF Product Design Award, the Gold EID award in appliance DESIGN magazine’s 20th Annual Excellence in Design Competition, an Innovations 2008 Design and Engineering Award from the Consumer Electronics Association and a 2007 GOOD DESIGN Award from the Japan Industrial Promotion Organization. At the IIDEX/NeoCon Canada 2007 Exposition and Conference, the Switch Mouse won a Gold Innovation Award. The design also earned top prizes at the NeoCon World’s Trade Fair 2007 in Chicago, including a Gold Award in the 2007 Best of NeoCon competition and a Grand Prize in the Product Innovations Awards presented by Buildings magazine. In addition, the Switch Mouse took the top nod for Best Ergonomic Solution at Mixology07.
